Project Description:
In recent years, Wisconsin public libraries have seen a significant increase in turnover of public library directors, particularly in small and/or rural communities. The Public Library Development team would like to uncover reasons why this increase is taking place and to evaluate whether the New Public Library Director Boot Camp can help reduce the rate of turnover.
Question/Problem Statement:
The question is twofold:
a) Why are library directors leaving their jobs?
b) Does the training provided at the boot camp prepare library directors enough to reduce turnover rates?
Statement of Why:
First, the library must know the cause of turnover. If a significant causative agent is lack of preparation, then the library should identify if the current boot camp training is sufficient or if changes in the curriculum need to be made.
