Evaluation Projects
#11
Hi, my name is Emily Bruce. I am the Training Coordinator for the Library & Cultural Arts Department. For my project I would like to focus on evaluating the onboarding process for new employees. We have made some adjustments to the onboarding process over the past year, including adding an online onboarding portal through NeoGov. I would like to evaluate the overall process in order to see what areas need additional improvement to create an onboarding process that leaves new employees feeling prepared to start their new position and welcomed to the organization.

Good afternoon! I am Sarah Dana and I oversee Genealogy and Carlsbad History. Over the last two years, Division staff have been transitioning from delivering information via lecture to providing instruction via hands-on computer classes to teach users how to access online genealogy/local history information and create digital content. To that end, we are kicking off a new class this month to teach patrons how to index, or make genealogy records keyword searchable, on FamilySearch.org. I’m looking forward to learning how to effectively gauge the success of the program! As part of that evaluation, we hope to answer the following questions:
(1) Do attendees feel confident enough with their new skills to continue indexing once the class is over?
(2) Does the act of indexing records enhance users’ understanding of how to effectively search for records?
(3) Does this type of genealogy community service (increasing the number of searchable records online) resonate with our users?

Hi I'm Darin Williamson, Lead Librarian and Teen Services Librarian,
I've been emceeing the 3 Teen Talent Shows for 13 years and I would like to refresh the program to create more impact.
I plan on exploring incorporating the
  • Addition of providing an encore performance for the top finisher in each of the talent shows to play before the TGIF Concert in the Park on August 10th.
  • Continuation of a monetary rewards structure that provides incentives for all participants.
  • Evaluations to understand what motivates the teens to compete.
  • Exploration HUB (GarageBand & iMovie) to polish up raw footage from the contestant's live performances.

Hello!

We are CJ DiMento, Principal Librarian of Branch Services, Arts Commission Liaison, and Adelante Bookmobile, and Marie Town, Principal Librarian of Youth Services, with Oceanside Public Library. We will be looking at setting up evaluation processes and procedures for more learning based programs as we've set out to do in our current Strategic Plan. We will focus on the LSTA Pitch-an-Idea grant project of the first STEAM Summer Camp for children age 6-8 we are implementing this summer at our Civic Center Library. Looking forward to the next few days of learning!

Wish us luck!

Hello, this is Brad Penner, Library Division Manager, Oceanside Public Library. My colleague Monica Chapa Domercq, Principal Librarian, Adult Services, and I are working with our library's adult literacy program, Oceanside READS.  We and Literacy Coordinator Corrie Miles are just about to start working with a consultant on strengthening and developing the program, in a process that should include research, surveys, interviews with participants and peers, analysis, evaluation, and a great deal more! The consulting proposal specifically mentions inputs, outputs and outcomes, so we are looking forward to being as prepared on our end as possible. We will be delighted to be coming down to Carlsbad tomorrow, and enjoy this great learning opportunity.

Everyone from Oceanside is very proud of our Strategic Plan Update, which can be found at

http://www.ci.oceanside.ca.us/documents/Library/lsp.pdf

and is our contribution to the Rip off & Duplicate Station. The Update represents both the specific projects we are working on and many other opportunities to evaluate data!
Regards
