Hello,

I am Dawn Thistle, the Special Collections Librarian (AND Youth Services Coordinator - unique combo, no?) at Gardiner Public Library in Gardiner, Maine (service area: 16-17K). Previously, I served 10 years as a small town library director in Vassalboro, Maine, and two years as a middle school librarian (also in Gardiner). I also served five years as a high school teacher for students with behavioral and developmental disabilities, as well as two years as a therapeutic foster parent for the same children. Following my stint in special education, I began burrowing into the library world - working on my master's at Simmons and hating everything about my required course in Evaluation... until, one day, I didn't! I am currently wrapping up my coursework in my doctoral studies at Simmons and trying to figure out a way to bridge my academic requirements with boots-on-the-ground evaluation work in day-to-day library activity. I have been trying to focus my research on genealogical reference, but this is not a primary topic of study -- so I feel a bit like I am on my own raft on a wide, wide sea.

In what little free time I have these days, I request books and movies through ILL (but rarely get around to reading or watching them), stare longlingly out the window hoping that I might kayak or sit outside the Wi-fi range for a spell, and plot knitting projects to bring to conferences (but not this one!)....
