Hey all. I have about a million ongoing projects, but here's one that I'm currently (as in TODAY) working on:
1 - a brief description of your project
The Town of Clayton has a significant number of homeschool groups/families. Our goal is to gather as many as possible of these families together, find out what library materials and services they are currently using/enjoying, identify areas for improvement, and use that data to help with services planning, collection development, and scaffolding for future educational projects.
2 - your question/problem statement (what is the question that needs to be answered OR the problem that needs to be solved?)
My problem is that I have a population of homeschoolers that use the library, but I don't know what they want/like, and I don't know if we are meeting their needs. I also don't know what they could offer to each other and whether or not we're missing an opportunity to be a connector in the community.
3 - your why statement (why does the library need this answer/solution? What will the library be able to do after it has this answer/solution?)
We need to answer these questions/solve this problems for several reasons, listed below:
A) So that we can serve these patrons to the best of our ability
B) So that we can include the patrons in larger initiatives (Like the major library services and space needs assessment that we'll be doing this fall, thanks to the Institute of Library and Museum Services who has provided LSTA funding for this project through the State Library of North Carolina. Woop!)
C) So that we can help homeschoolers connect with each other and share resources wisely
D) So that we can use positive and negative feedback from this experience to inform future educational interactions with other groups (traditional school groups, preschool groups, etc.)
